Worksop Station Enhancements

Client

Northern Rail Ltd

Location

Worksop

Project Value

£380k

Project duration

12 weeks

Project overview

The Worksop Railway Station booking hall and waiting room had long suffered from dilapidation and damp throughout, presenting an uncomfortable environment for both passengers and staff. our task was to refurbish the space, turning it into a modern and inviting area. Creating a new booking hall and staff ticket office space.

Additionally, the project involved the creation of a smaller waiting room on the opposite platform, aiming to enhance the overall passenger experience.

Approach

The refurbishment project commenced with demolition of the brick partition wall followed by the installation of structural steel to seamlessly merge the areas into one continuous space. Damp proofing measures were implemented, and the space was redecorated.

Key enhancements included the installation of new automatic doors as well as construction of a wider ramp to improve access for disabled passengers.

The ticket counter received a makeover with the installation of a DDA compliant counter front, enhancing functionality and accessibility. The introduction of Customer Information Screens (CIS) and a Long Line Public Announcement system provided passengers with real-time updates.

Scope of works

  • Damp proofing
  • Automatic doors
  • Wider ramp
  • Wall cladding
  • DDA compliant bench seating
  • Suspended ceiling with L.E.D light fittings
  • Frenger radiant heating panels
  • DDA compliant counter front
  • Floor tiles with barrier matting
  • Customer Information Screens & PA system

Outcome

The once dilapidated and damp space has been transformed into a welcoming environment for passengers and staff alike with enhanced accessibility measures ensuring inclusivity for all.

The introduction of modern amenities such as automatic doors, LED lighting, and radiant heating panels elevates the overall passenger experience, contributing to a smoother travel experience.

In summary, the Worksop Railway Station refurbishment project has breathed new life into the station with a perfect balance of design and functionality.
