National Express East Anglia (NXEA) required extensive refurbishment of 58 railway stations ahead of transferring the franchise back to Network Rail. The project aimed to address significant dilapidations and improve the stations’ overall condition, ensuring a smooth handover and enhanced passenger experience.
With stations often located at large distances apart, logistics emerged as the primary challenge, compounded by a stringent 26-week completion deadline.
Leveraging extensive experience in delivering hundreds of stations across the UK, we devised a precise strategy for programming and project management, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
We conducted a detailed assessment of each station, identifying specific refurbishment needs and scheduling tasks to optimise resource allocation. Given the geographical spread of the stations, a robust logistics plan was established to ensure timely delivery of materials and deployment of teams. This plan included the use of regional hubs for equipment storage and coordination.
To meet the tight deadline, multiple site teams were deployed to work on different stations concurrently. Each team was equipped with specialised skills to handle specific refurbishment tasks.
The refurbishment included a wide range of services, addressing both structural and aesthetic aspects of the stations.
Despite the logistical challenges, the project was completed within the 26-week timeframe, demonstrating our capability to manage large-scale refurbishments under tight schedules. All 58 stations received comprehensive upgrades, significantly improving their functionality and aesthetic appeal and ensuring a smooth handover to Network Rail.
High standards of safety and quality were maintained throughout the project.
