Located just 32 miles from central London and with a history dating back to 1938, London Luton Airport ranks as the fourth largest airport in the UK, annually serving 17 million passengers with connections to 154 global destinations. In response to the increasing demand for coach services, a project was initiated to repurpose a significant area of land adjacent to the existing car park.

Approach

Collaborating closely with National Express, renowned for its extensive network of services nationwide, we embarked on a scheme to repurpose the land adjacent to the existing car park. This initiative aimed to accommodate the growing demand for coach services by establishing a new coach park, providing driver accommodation, and implementing maintenance/service facilities to support coach operations serving the main airport terminal.

Scope of works

  • Land remediation
  • External car park lighting
  • Power and water supplies for depot accommodation
  • Substructure/civils works for staff accommodation and offices
  • Fit-out of new depot facilities
  • Highway alterations and resurfacing
  • Customer information screen installations

Outcome

  • Successful repurposing of land to create a new coach park and facilities at London Luton Airport, enhancing the operational efficiency and passenger experience

  • Improved accessibility and convenience for National Express coach services, contributing to seamless transportation for passengers.
