Home » Automatic Ticket Gate & Station Enhancements for SWR
Our Automatic Ticket Gate and Station Enhancement Project for South Western Trains (SWR) was carried out over two phases, comprising thirteen stations across the SWR network. A key aim for this project was to improve pedestrian flow through stations, which is a key challenge for the rail industry to ensure both safe platform access and revenue protection.
Our client SWR identified thirteen priority stations based on high footfall and pedestrian modelling for the rollout of new automated, ticket gatelines. A key challenge for both the design & construction team was how to integrate gate line technology and infrastructure into the wide-ranging parameters of the existing stations.
With several of these being of Listed Building Status, the historical context required careful appreciation. Choice of materials, methods of working, and finished appearance all being key factors for a developed sympathetic approach in keeping with the heritage assets.
Where space was limited, we designed and constructed bespoke architecturally glazed, stainless steel structures to enhance the footprint on stations improving passenger flow and providing a safe and welcome user-friendly environment for customers.
