Prompted by the significant increase in passenger numbers traveling between London and Preston, Consortia, were successfully appointed by Virgin West Coast to complete the construction of a new station entrance and cycle facility at Preston Station. With a total investment value of £1.3 million and a duration of 32 weeks, this project aimed to enhance the customer experience.
As the Principal Contractor, our primary responsibility was to execute the construction of a modern glazed and steel-framed structure. This structure was designed to serve as a new entrance, housing ticket vending machines, car park payment machines, and a retail outlet on Butler Street. Furthermore, our task included the provision of direct access to the existing subway as well as platform 7.
As acknowledged by Virgin Trains the modern design of the Butler Street entrance creates a striking contrast with the traditional station building, offering a more contemporary and passenger-friendly environment.
These improvements not only improve the station’s presence within the city centre but also contribute to better transport connections, benefiting key sectors of the Lancashire economy. Consortia is proud to have played a pivotal role in the successful delivery of this project, furthering our commitment to excellence in construction and infrastructure development.
