Great Western Rail (GWR) embarked on a project to revitalise the Moreton-in-Marsh Station, situated in the picturesque Cotswolds.
The combination of faster journey times to Oxford and London, coupled with increased train frequency, signifies a substantial enhancement in the overall rail service experience for Moreton-in-Marsh commuters.
This project aimed to enhance the station’s waiting room facilities, incorporating modern amenities and accessibility features to improve passenger experience.
The project commenced with the demolition of the existing waiting room, followed by the full-scale construction of a new, technologically advanced waiting room.
Collaborating closely with stakeholders, including GWR, Cotswold Line Promotion Group (CLPG), and Gloucester County Council, the project team ensured alignment with the vision for enhancing railway infrastructure in the region.
The new waiting room was strategically placed on the London-bound platform, addressing the previous lack of facilities for railway users.
The completion of the project heralded a significant improvement in passenger amenities at Moreton-in-Marsh Station. The modern waiting room, dedicated to CLPG founders Oliver Lovell and John Stanley, offers a welcoming environment with ample seating for commuters. This initiative received praise from local authorities, with Cllr Nigel Moor of Gloucestershire County Council expressing support for the station’s role in driving economic growth in the Cotswolds.
The modernisation of Moreton-in-Marsh Station waiting room exemplifies GWR’s commitment to improving passenger journeys and contributing to the economic and social development of the regions it serves.
This case study highlights our successful collaboration with Great Western Rail and various stakeholders to upgrade the Moreton-in-Marsh Station waiting room, enhancing passenger experience and facilitating regional growth.
