Honley High School – Glazed Walkway

Client

Imagile

Location

Honley High School

Project Value

£165,000

Project duration

6 Weeks

Honey high corridor showing glazed roof

Project overview

Honley High School, a secondary school located in the Holme Valley, West Yorkshire, required the replacement of glazed walkways in one of its listed buildings. The project, overseen by Imagile Professional Services, was scheduled to take place during the six-week summer holiday to avoid disruption to school operations. The Consortia Group was selected to lead the project due to our proven ability to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines, while adhering to the specific needs of educational environments.

Approach

The first step involved demolishing and removing the existing glazed walkway roofs. This crucial phase was handled with precision to ensure the safe dismantling of the structure, particularly considering the listed status of the building. The team then took out the top sections of the windows to create space for the next phase of construction.

Timber stud frames were installed at the top sections of the openings. These provide structural stability and act as a base for insulation, which was then applied to improve energy efficiency and weatherproofing.

On the exterior, we rendered the top sections of the walls to blend seamlessly with the building’s existing façade. Following this, two new roofs were installed to replace the previous glazing, offering greater durability and protection from the elements.

Inside, the walls were plastered and decorated, creating a smooth and visually appealing finish.

Scope of works

  • Demolition/removal of existing glazed walkway sections
  • Remove top section of windows
  • Timber stud work to top apertures
  • Insulation and close in with plaster board
  • Render top section to external walls
  • Plaster interior walls
  • Fit new glazed walkway sections
  • New soffits and facia boards
  • Decorate interior walls

Outcome

The project was completed within the designated six-week summer closure, ensuring the site was cleared and fully prepared before the start of the new term. The attention to health and safety was noted by all involved, ensuring that the construction site remained hazard-free and the project was executed smoothly. The team’s professionalism, courteous nature, and commitment to meeting the school’s strict deadlines were particularly appreciated.

As a result, the project was delivered to a high standard, with the client expressing complete satisfaction with both the process and the outcome. Consortia’s strong communication and swift resolution of issues further strengthened our professional relationship with Imagile Professional Services
