On Friday, The Consortia Group had the privilege of participating in the Fern Grove Community Garden Build Day, contributing to the continued development of this vibrant community space. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to align our values with supporting the local community, particularly in ways that promote sustainability and wellbeing.
We were thrilled to be able to contribute to this wonderful project and the team’s efforts did not go unnoticed this review from Sarah says it all: “Thank you so much for your help on Friday, you all worked so hard, and it is going to make such a difference for the community garden moving forward.” It’s heartwarming to know that our efforts will have a lasting impact.
The garden itself has come a long way since its creation 13 years ago with the help of Liverpool City Council. Initially starting with just two flower beds, it has grown year on year to become a thriving space full of life and opportunity for the local community. Over the years, it has received support from several organisations, including the National Garden Scheme (NGS), which funded the polytunnel 10 years ago, enabling the growing of seedlings for the garden. Tesco’s blue-chip funding also contributed a rain shelter, further enhancing the space.
With around 20 families regularly using the garden—whether for planting flowers, vegetables, or simply enjoying the tranquil surroundings—it has become a focal point for building community spirit. The Fern Grove garden truly brings people together and helps foster a deeper connection within the local area.
On the day, we worked alongside City Build to help build a new path to the compost area, making it easier for community members to bring their food waste for composting. We also assisted in constructing new flower beds along the fence line and reorganised the polytunnel to make it more efficient for growing seedlings. These updates will make a significant difference in the garden’s functionality, enabling it to better serve the needs of the community.
This is not our first visit to Fern Grove as we built the pyramid play area on a previous visit in 2021.
The garden hosts annual open days to raise funds for further improvements and to help with ongoing maintenance. These events are essential for keeping the garden thriving, and they also provide an excellent opportunity for the community to get involved and support the garden.
At Consortia Group, we are proud to contribute to such a meaningful project that reflects our core values of delivering quality and building long-lasting partnerships. By supporting Fern Grove, we continue to strengthen our ties within the local community and contribute to creating spaces that have a positive and lasting impact.
It’s been a privilege to lend a hand, and we look forward to seeing the garden flourish as it continues to grow and bloom in the months to come.
