Site knowledge is key when managing projects and working as a tradesman really helped with this understanding.

I have moved from a trainee to Assistant Project Manager and from managing small works, I have now been heavily involved with the bigger projects we are completing.
What support and resources does Consortia provide to help you succeed in your role?
I have been given a works phone, laptop & access to a van as well as immense support from both management and the wider team when tendering, pricing and completing projects.
Can you share a memorable learning experience you’ve had on the job or challenging project that you’ve worked on?
Stepping up to play a bigger role in a particular project was challenging but I feel like it has pushed me on massively in experience.

I think by building really good relationships with clients is where we will differentiate from other firms.
How does our company prioritise safety on construction sites, and what role do you play in ensuring a safe work environment?
All site managers are fully qualified and trained and there are site inductions that every sub-contractor must complete. In addition, we have Risk Assessment and Method Statements, Access Permits, Traffic Management Plans and Health and Safety files that we create and are all approved by the client before works start.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Winning projects from pricing and then completing the job with a happy client.
What are your career goals?
I’m hoping to have a lasting career at Consortia and eventually become a Contracts Manager.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a project manager in the construction industry?
Before becoming a manager, I would advise that they work on site and get experience that way to understand the projects from top to bottom.
